Places visited: Farmers Market
Date: 9 June 2018
Time: 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM
Persons: Harshal, Juilee, Radhika
The weather was very cloudy and humid. The weather app was showing 100% chance of rain. We assumed that the weather forecasts in USA are same (untrustworthy) like India, so we decided to go to the farmer's market which is a open place market in downtown Davenport, near the skybridge on the banks of the mighty Mississippi river.
When we reached to the place, we felt the existence of people, which we never felt till now in our last 1 month of living in America. There was good crowd, there were food stalls and people were eating the food sold on those stalls (which I saw first time in USA). There were fresh lemonade stalls and few snow-ball (barfacha gola) stalls. There was a closed space/bar in the front which hosted a closed market as well, but its very small. The major portion is a big open space market.
We wandered across each stall and felt the home grown varieties of vegetables and fruits. The prices are higher than Walmart and HyVee, but the produce looked fresh and looked like not treated with hormones. The strawberries looked small and unlike those big mango sized strawberries from HyVee!
There were leafy vegetables and other things like cabbage, beetroot, coffee beans, etc.
We enjoyed Corn, Snow ball and Lemonades. The corn is roasted inside a big machine along with its outer leaves, so the corn beads do not get stains. This is different than in India. In India we roast corn by removing its outer leaves, so the corn beads get roast stains, which tastes better. This one did not look like roasted, but was very juicy and tasty.
Some stalls were selling freshly prepared vegetarian and non-vegetarian foods like breads, burgers, sausage, wood fire pizza hot dogs, tea, coffee, etc. So no need to take your own food unless you want to save the money. The bar also serves beer if you want to enjoy it while your wife is shopping. Hahahaha.
Children also get trampolines to enjoy.
Expenses:
Refreshments = $20
Trampoline = $5
Total = $25
